IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. By accessing or using Solar Planner (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, accessing the website, or using the solar system design tool, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. We may update these Terms from time to time — continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any changes.
2. Description of Service
Solar Planner is a free, web-based educational and planning tool that allows users to design solar power systems by placing virtual components on a canvas, connecting them, and receiving automated wire sizing suggestions and safety validation indicators.
The Service is an educational and planning aid only. It does not constitute professional engineering advice, electrical design certification, or a substitute for consultation with a licensed electrician or solar installation professional.
3. User Responsibilities — YOU Are the Designer
By using Solar Planner, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You are the designer of any solar system created using this tool. Solar Planner is a drafting aid — all design decisions, component selections, and installations are solely your responsibility.
- You must independently verify all calculations, wire sizes, component compatibility, and safety assessments before purchasing materials or installing any electrical system.
- You must consult with a qualified, licensed electrician or solar installation professional before implementing any design created with this tool.
- You are responsible for ensuring all installations comply with local building codes, electrical codes (such as the NEC or equivalent), and any applicable regulations in your jurisdiction.
- You must follow all manufacturer specifications, installation guides, and safety warnings for every component used in your system.
4. Accuracy Disclaimer — No Warranty
While we strive for accuracy in our wire sizing calculations and safety indicators, Solar Planner is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any calculation or suggestion
- Fitness for a particular purpose or merchantability
- Non-infringement of third-party rights
- That the tool will meet your specific requirements or produce error-free results
Wire gauge recommendations, voltage drop calculations, and safety validation indicators are estimates and suggestions only. Actual wire sizing requirements depend on many factors including but not limited to: ambient temperature, conduit type, number of conductors in a raceway, specific installation conditions, local code requirements, and manufacturer specifications that may differ from our database values.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- Solar Planner, its developers, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or related to:
- The use of, inability to use, or reliance on any design, calculation, or suggestion produced by the Service
- Property damage, personal injury, or death resulting from the installation or use of any solar system designed with this tool
- Equipment damage, fire, electrical shock, or any other hazard arising from designs created using the Service
- Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in calculations or data
- Loss of data, designs, or saved layouts
- This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise) and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
6. Assumption of Risk
By using Solar Planner, you expressly assume all risks associated with:
- Designing solar power systems based on the tool's calculations and suggestions
- Implementing, installing, or constructing any system designed with the tool
- Relying on wire sizing recommendations without independent professional verification
- Using the tool for critical applications where errors could result in harm
Working with electrical systems is inherently dangerous. Improperly designed or installed solar systems can cause fire, electrocution, equipment damage, and death. Always hire a qualified professional for installation.
7. Payments, Subscriptions, and Billing
Solar Planner offers a free tier and a paid Pro subscription. By purchasing a Pro subscription, you agree to the following:
- All prices are listed in US Dollars (USD). Your bank or payment provider may convert charges to your local currency at their applicable exchange rate.
- Payments are processed securely through Stripe or PayPal (depending on the payment method selected at checkout). We do not store your credit card details on our servers.
- Pro subscriptions are billed in advance — monthly ($5 USD/month) or annually ($40 USD/year), depending on the plan you select.
- Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- You may change between monthly and annual billing at any time through the billing portal. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing period.
8. Cancellations and Refunds
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time through the billing portal or by contacting us. When you cancel:
- Your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period. For example, if you have an annual subscription and cancel after 6 months, you retain full Pro access for the remaining 6 months — your plan simply will not renew.
- No further charges will be made after cancellation.
- We do not offer partial refunds for unused time within a billing period, except where required by applicable law.
- Upon downgrade to the free plan, designs exceeding the free tier limit (2 designs) will remain saved but may become read-only until designs are deleted or the limit is increased.
10. User Accounts and Content
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You retain ownership of any solar system designs you create. By posting content in the community forum, you grant us a non-exclusive license to display and moderate that content within the Service.
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Post misleading, defamatory, or harmful content in the forum
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or designs
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the Service
11. Intellectual Property
The Solar Planner application, including its source code, design, wire sizing algorithms, and database of product information, is the intellectual property of Solar Planner and its contributors. Product names, brands, and specifications referenced in the tool belong to their respective manufacturers.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion, particularly if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or use of the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation or, if necessary, in the courts of the applicable jurisdiction.
14. Contact
